Former US diplomat cancels forum after Dartmouth protests [Video]

At least 90 people were arrested Wednesday night at Dartmouth College after protesters set up encampments in response to the war in Gaza, according to Hanover Police. It started around 5 p.m. on the campus green as a planned, peaceful protest. Dartmouth Safety and Security made it clear to organizers that encampments wouldn’t be allowed. Around 6:30 p.m., protesters started setting up tents, which led to an hourlong standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies, including 20 riot officers in tactical gear and Central New Hampshire Special Operations. “At Dartmouth, we are cultivating and building on a culture of respect, dialogue, and understanding,” Dartmouth Provost David Kotz said. “At the same time, Dartmouth’s policy explicitly states that we ‘may place limitations on the time, place, and manner of any speaker event, protest, or demonstration’ if it interferes with core educational or administrative functions of the institution,” Kotz said.
