Community gathering to be held Thursday afternoon in Mount Horeb [Video]

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A community gathering is being held Thursday afternoon in Mount Horeb after an active shooter situation outside the middle school on Wednesday.

The Mount Horeb Area School District explained in a Facebook post that the demonstration of community cohesion will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. at the High School Commons.

Resources will be available for families and school employees, according to the district, and a short activity is planned.

Superintendent Steve Salerno emphasized the importance of working together to provide support.

“Our community has experienced a collective crisis and together we will provide support and work toward recovery,” Salerno said. “As a parent or caregiver, you have a powerful opportunity to support your child.”

He also posted a list of how parents or caregivers can speak with their students about this situation.
