Veterans celebrate the 4th at Denison cookout – KTEN [Video]

Texoma veterans were honored for their service at the annual Walker House event. Attendees chowed down on free food, with music and games to commemorate their services on and off the battlefield.

“A lot of people that are by themselves living, and they do not have anyone to celebrate the holidays with,” said Walker House volunteer Cindy Unerfusser. “That’s why they come here, and we’re open for them.”

The cookout let veterans meet new brothers and sisters to connect on another level.

“The camaraderie and being together and learning how each veteran deals with their stress or… you know… circumstances,” said peer service coordinator Sharon Luse. “They share what works for them.”

She believes the annual cookout event helps veterans embark on new experiences after fighting for the land of the free.

This year’s cookout hosted veterans of all ages, including Army veteran Craig Brown, who hung up his uniform in 2017.
