TOLLESON, AZ (AZFamily) —Rosie Contreras is relieved after her family escaped a house fire on June 20.
She said a ride-on toy forklift she had gotten her two 5-year-old twin boys, Emanuel and Xavier, for Christmas burst into flames around 3:30 p.m. that day outside her house.
Fortunately, her boys weren’t playing with the truck at the time.
“They mean the world to me, and I just couldn’t picture my life without them,” said Contreras.
She said she had left the toy truck outside for the past few weeks.
“It’s scary. Like, I never thought that could happen,” she said.
When it caught fire, Contreras said the flames started covering the window from the outside.
She said her boys, who are deaf, blind and non-verbal, were playing inside the house near the window and started banging on it. That’s when she saw the flames and took Emanuel, Xavier and their sister outside before …
