The Waldo County Garden Project goes beyond the seeds they plant | Local News [Video]

SWANVILLE — Many drive by the Waldo County Emergency Management Agency on Route 141 in Swanville every day. From the road, there’s nothing out of the ordinary about it. But next time you drive by that big red building, look past it because there are 60 acres of tales to tell.

Overlooking Goose River is 60 acres of farmland that grows an abundance of fruits and vegetables, all of which are donated to various Waldo County organizations.

However, those who drive past 685 Swan Lake Avenue, “They probably don’t know that the inmates at the reentry center run it,” said Erik Thompson, a volunteer with the Waldo County Garden Project. “It’s all us doing everything here.”

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division’s Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center offers offenders near the end of their sentence a chance for personal growth.
