Southern Miss football player killed in off-campus shooting [Video]

A member of Southern Mississippi’s football team was found dead after an apparent shooting off-campus.

Marcus (MJ) Daniels Jr., 21, of George County, was a senior cornerback for the Golden Eagles.

Hattiesburg Police said he was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in his vehicle on Highway 49 on Tuesday night. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the Daniels family. We are doing all that we can to locate the perpetrators to bring justice to the victim and his family,” said Hattiesburg Police Chief Hardy Sims in a statement.

“We are asking the community for their help and to come forward with any information pertaining to this tragic incident and the untimely death of Marcus Daniels.”
