FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Salvation Army is opening cooling stations in Fayetteville and Bentonville, providing people with a chance to cool off and hydrate during this summers’ severe heat advisories.

The high humidity and heat index levels pose danger to unhoused individuals or those without access to air conditioning.

As the Salvation Army gears up to provide air-conditioned shelter to those in need, both locations face severe understaffing issues, Doyle Crosswhite, Director of Sheltering Services said.

“The university volunteers that oftentimes help us out during the rest of the year are unavailable,” Crosswhite said. “We’re looking for housing monitors at both facilities, part time positions.”

The Salvation Army location in Bentonville and Fayetteville are seeking individuals interested in serving the homeless community, Crosswhite said.
