NEDHSA to host suicide first aid workshop [Video]

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) is hosting a free two-day interactive workshop on suicide first aid. The workshop will be held on May 23 and May 24 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church Family Life Center.

The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training – otherwise known as ASIST – aims to teach people how to intervene when someone is at risk of committing suicide. According to NEDHSA, the workshop will include small-group learning, practice scenarios, and interactive discussions and questions.

“We are connecting more strategically and intentionally with municipals, local government agencies, and faith-based organizations as we seek to battle mental illness and addiction,” NEDHSA Executive Director Dr. Monteic A. Sizer said. “When evidence-based treatment and training are expanded, we all can better provide accessible, quality, and competent care to our region.”
