KANSAS City Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson is recovering after suffering a seizure and cardiac arrest at practice.
After being taken off the field in an ambulance, Thompson is awake and responsive, according to his agent.
Thompson is a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Stephen F. Austin University.
NFL reporter Tom Pelissero initially reported on the medical emergency.
“The Chiefs canceled all team activities today after a backup defensive lineman had a seizure in a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest, per sources,” he wrote.
“The team’s medical staff worked quickly, an ambulance was called and the player is currently in stable condition.”
Chiefs reporter Pete Sweeney credited the doctors and trainers on site for their quick response in treating Thompson.
