Joplin Library partners with school district to offer free meals [Video]

JOPLIN, Mo. — Kids can get more than books and videos this time of year at the Joplin Public Library.

Over the next six weeks, school-aged kids can come to the facility and receive a free sack lunch.

It’s the third year in a row for the service which is a partnership between the library and the Joplin School District’s Nutritional Services Department.

“Every day Monday through Friday, it’s for anyone ages eighteen and under you don’t have to attend Joplin Schools, you don’t have to live in Joplin, you just have to be eighteen or under, and um they distribute them from eleven to eleven thirty every day,” said Christina Matekel-Gibson, Children’s Services Librarian.

Gibson says meals will be served each weekday at the library on a first-come, first-serve basis until Friday, August 16.
