BBC Radio 2 star Jeremy Vine has released a new statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after Joey Barton agreed to pay him £75,000 in damages and legal fees, claiming this is “not the final outcome” of the case.

Vine took legal action against Barton for libel and harassment over 14 posts the former footballer shared to social media, which resulted in both parties agreeing to settle the case. The online posts saw Barton describe Vine as a “big bike nonce” and a “pedo defender”.

High Court judge Justice Steyn ruled last month that 11 of the posts could be seen as defamatory towards Vine. After being dismissed by Bristol Rovers last October, Barton has now consented to pay Vine £75,000 in damages and legal costs.
