Jefferson Parish prepares residents for incoming severe weather [Video]

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — WGNO meteorologists are predicting severe weather to impact parts of Southeast Louisiana on Monday, May 13, and Jefferson Parish officials are preparing residents for the weather event.

Jefferson Parish officials announced that Terrytown Playground at 641 Heritage Ave. will open at 5 p.m. as a “sturdy shelter” for mobile home residents in anticipation of the inclement weather.

National Weather Service officials are advising the public that being in a mobile home during severe weather is not safe and should seek an alternative shelter with friends or family.

Residents are being advised to tie down all outside objects that can become flying debris in high winds.

The shelter will remain open until NWS officials give an all-clear. Residents are being asked to bring their own food, water and all other necessities.
