DeKalb County Medical Examiners Office using social media to curb deaths [Video]

DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office is turning to social media in an effort to curb what they call preventable deaths.

From community outreach to informational posts, the Medical Examiner’s Office says it’s trying to show people what the office actually does while also raising awareness.

“Our role is to find the cause and manner of death. We need to determine that in deceased individuals. So we are there to speak for those who can’t,” said Public Education Specialist Brittany Godfrey.

Life is fragile. The office says their work matters for the dead and the living.

“Prevention is our top priority when it comes to posting anything on social media,” said Godfrey.

They are using social media to save lives.

“We want to do what we can with the opioid crisis. We want to help prevent gun violence, suicides. We want to educate the community on what they can do to better …
