The cost of child care has skyrocketed and is typically the second largest household expense for families.
INDIANAPOLIS — Parents and childcare providers are raising awareness about childcare affordability.
Monday is National Day Without Child Care, a campaign that also raises awareness about the need for better pay for educators and providers.
Little Feet Academy in Johnson County is a faith-based day care center, taking care of our youngest Hoosiers. Workers there say this impacts everyone.
“I think it would bring a lot of awareness to the wages that are paid to a lot of the staff that work in preschool and daycares,” said Little Feet’s Kelly McBride. “They’re paid substantially lower wages a lot of times than other occupations and they’re doing one of the most important jobs in the world.”
According to Indeed.com, child care providers in Indiana make an average of $14 per hour.
