Baptist University of Florida weighs in on recent controversy regarding Southern Baptist Convention [Video]

GRACEVILLE, FL (WTVY) – A recent vote regarding the Southern Baptist Convention became quite a controversial topic.

In a narrow vote, the convention rejected a proposal to amend the SBC’s constitution that would explicitly state that only men could hold the position of pastor or elder.

The Southern Baptist Convention has long clarified its belief in the role of a pastor being limited to men in their statement of faith.

However, those for the amendment believe that the use of the word pastor has become too general to define positions for certain ministries, and the title pastor should be reserved for the formal position.

Those opposed to the amendment believe the SBC’s doctrinal message already assures its stance on the role of pastor, making an amendment to its constitution unnecessary.
