AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Aurora City Council members passed multiple plans to end homelessness within the city on Monday.

The first measure passed will change the city’s court system and be set up for people who are homeless and facing low-level offenses.

The city will use a proposed program called H.E.A.R.T. (Housing, Employment, Addiction, Recovery, and Teamwork) and place the offenders on probation with court-ordered requirements. If they complete all the court-ordered requirements, all charges will be dropped at the end of the probation period.

“The goal of the two proposals is to make it untenable for our unsheltered homeless to stay on the streets and, at the same time, make the necessary resources available to help them via the new court,” said Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman on Facebook.
