Appalachia Service Project, Speedy Pro Roofing helps Johnson City family [Video]

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — On Thursday, the Appalachia Service Project began helping a family in need of a new roof.

The Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a nonprofit organization that utilizes volunteer work to make homes warm, safe, and dry. ASP gathered its resources on Thursday to begin helping a Johnson City family needing a new roof. The project will take about two weeks.

News Channel 11 spoke with volunteer coordinator Clarene Martin, who said ASP recognized the family’s need for help but knew the organization would face obstacles.

“We saw the roof was in need of repair, but [it] is outside of our scope to be able to put volunteers on the project,” Martin said. “So that’s when we started looking into subcontracting the roof to see if we would be able to have it completed for the homeowner.”
