A wall is not where the Ten Commandments belong: Marvin A. McMickle [Video]

CLEVELAND — In 2023, my 19th book was released, entitled, “Hiding God’s Word in Our Hearts.” Published by Judson Press, a division of American Baptist Churches USA, the premise of the book is rooted in Psalm 119:11 that says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

The Bible, or any parts of it, is best honored when we allow its contents to enter our hearts where it can shape our values, direct our actions, and increase our spiritual formation. That is my response to the governor of Louisiana, who signed into law a requirement that a replica of the Ten Commandments be displayed on the wall of every school classroom in that state.

Why? To what end? Hanging the Ten Commandments or any other part of the Bible on a wall has no spiritual value and possesses no biblical justification. “Your word have I hidden in my heart!”
