Tulsa Police chief speaks about planned retirement | Local & State [Video]

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa’s police chief opened up about retiring this summer after four years in the position and nearly 30 years serving the City of Tulsa.

FOX23 brought you breaking news about the chief’s decision on Wednesday, and on Thursday afternoon, his news conference live on the air.

Chief Wendell Franklin said a shooting scene at Woodland Hills Mall the day after Christmas last year had an impact on him.

He said he was worn down and had taken some time off to rejuvenate when the call came in.

“I threw on a uniform, did a quick shave and went into work essentially,” Franklin explained.

Afterwards, he tried to enjoy his remaining time off, but it wasn’t the same.

“I’m not feeling this rejuvenation I normally would from taking time off, so it was then that I started, I start thinking, it’s probably there, it’s probably time,” he said.
