Thousands of Illinois students descend on Peoria for SkillsUSA competition [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – Thousands of students from across Illinois were in Peoria for this year’s SkillsUSA elite workforce development competition.

The weekend event at the Peoria Civic Center recognized the dedication of schools and students to career and technical education.

Students raced one another in more than 100 career competitions, showing off their skills in front of potential employers from a wide variety of industries.

”This is a chance to take everything that they’re learning in their high school technical programs, and really amplify that and showcase that in front of industry partners that are looking to hire students just like them in these absolutely needed critical skill sets,” said Eric Hill, executive director of SkillsUSA Illinois.

The winners will compete at the national level in Atlanta this summer.
