Pro-Palestinian group calls for end to violence after arrests at Emory University [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta faith leaders and pro-Palestinian protesters are speaking out on recent on-campus protests that led to more than two dozen arrests.

Last week, Emory University joined the ranks of several universities whose campuses have become the site of heated demonstrations and protests surrounding Israel and Gaza.

The university called Atlanta police and Georgia State Patrol during the demonstrations after reportedly learning that an encampment set up on campus was built by non-students.

At least 20 Emory faculty and students and eight non-students were taken into custody as protesters clashed with law enforcement. According to organizers, protesters were demanding “total divestment from Israeli apartheid and Cop City.”

University officials said protesters threw objects at police officers who asked them to leave the campus. Police used handcuffs, zip ties, stun guns, and physical force to get some of the offenders into custody, Emory said.
