(FOX40.COM) — An incoming storm is set to bring cooler, wetter, and windier weather to Northern California ahead of the holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service of Sacramento.

NWS said it expects between half an inch to a full inch of rain to fall around midday on Saturday, with most of the rainfall occurring in the early morning and mostly clearing out by sunset.

FOX40 Chief Meteorologist Adam Epstein said he forecasts a few scattered showers throughout the day on Saturday and that thunderstorms are possible in the foothills, but less likely in the Sacramento Valley.

“The Saturday storm is taking shape,” Epstein said. “Temps will tumble from the low 80s [on] Friday to low 60s [on] Saturday.”

He continued, “A wave of moderate [to] heavy rain will pass through the Valley in the AM hours, and there will be 5-10″ of snow at lake level and 10-20″ of snow over 7000 feet!!”

NWS adds that wind gusts in the Valley are anticipated to register around 20-30 miles per hour.
