Lowcountry nonprofit working to better the waterways one buoy at a time [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Wounded Nature Working Veterans have been working closely with local law enforcement agencies to install what are known as mooring balls across the state.

This is to help resolve the problem of stranded or derelict boats often found in the waterways. Wounded Nature Working Veterans installed the first ever “law-enforcement use only” mooring ball last August, just a little ways off the Safe Harbor City Marina downtown. Since then, the organization has four active mooring balls and five more coming soon.

They have installed two mooring balls in Beaufort County and are awaiting a permit for a third. They recently installed one in Horry County as well and, in the next two weeks, they will install one on the line of North and South Carolina. They are also awaiting two permits in Georgetown.
