STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Scores of Staten Island Catholic school students on Saturday received, for the first time, the sacrament of Holy Communion.
Both Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach, and St. Peter’s R.C. Church in St. George hosted ceremonies the many youngsters who took part in the Catholic rite of passage.
The Eucharistic ceremony is derived from the Last Supper, when Jesus offered bread and wine to his disciples.
