Fundraiser helps VFD recovering from tornado [Video]

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – An event brought the community together Friday to help raise money for the Proctorville Volunteer Fire Department.

It came after tornadoes devastated much of the region on April 2, with one twister destroying part of the fire department’s building and some firetrucks.

Proctorville VFD Lt. Josh Hundley said the tornadoes hit too close to home.

“Oh, it was heartbreaking, it was heart-wrenching. Just like seeing our trucks destroyed … that’s our pride and joy, and they’re destroyed,” Hundley said.

Event organizer Bill Grim, who owns Grim Guys Garage, said “it started out as a little block party I used to do, and it’s grown into something big.”

The event had cornhole, live music, vintage cars and, above all else, a great community.
