First transitional housing program in Baldwin County celebrates 1st anniversary, success [Video]

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Baldwin County’s first transitional housing program is celebrating a “significant milestone” — its first anniversary.

Dumas Wesley Community Center’s transitional housing program, the Baldwin Family Village, which opened in April of 2023 is celebrating its first anniversary, but officials say the real thing they are celebrating is the success of the program.

Operated by the Dumas Wesley Community Center and the Baldwin Family Village Foundation, the program provides housing stability and wrap-around services for up to 100 single women and women with children annually.

To date, the transitional housing program has provided refuge for 71 women and children experiencing homelessness, according to a news release. Further, the program has “successfully graduated” 39 of the women and children into independent housing.

Former resident and recent graduate of the Baldwin Family Village, Brittany, credits the program for her current success.
