St. William Catholic Church was a total loss, fire officials said.
AVONDALE, Ariz. — An Avondale community is left picking up the pieces after St. William Catholic Church was almost completely destroyed by a devastating fire overnight.
The church, located near 107th Avenue and Buckeye Road, caught fire around 1 a.m. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze for several hours, but it was ultimately a total loss, Avondale Fire Battalion Chief Steve Mayhew told 12News.
Since the building was a church, officials say that there will be a significant investigation into the fire.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is currently unknown.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix released the following statement:
“We were made aware of a fire at one of our parishes very early this morning and are gathering the details, but it appears the church has been totally destroyed.
