Community Care Campus in Louisville to help city’s homeless population | News from WDRB [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — More than a billion dollars in state money will be invested in Louisville in an effort to tackle the city’s homelessness crisis.

State lawmakers allocated $100 million over the next two years to six downtown Louisville projects. The Community Care Campus will get $22 million but still needs an additional $15 million in private donations, said Jennifer Hancock, president and CEO of the Volunteers of America Mid-States social services agency, which will operate the campus.

Hancock said the project’s first phase is an emergency shelter that will begin this summer, with the private fundraising campaign starting now and running through the end of 2025.

“These are transformational investments,” Sen. Julie Raque Adams said.

The Community Care Campus was among a litany of state-funded projects lauded at a press conference Monday at the Kentucky Center downtown.
