CHICO, Calif. – On Friday, the city of Chico recognized itself as a tree city USA for the 40th consecutive year.
The Public Works Tree Division went out to Parkview Elementary to take part in the big day. The Public Work Division came out today to plant three Red Push Pistache trees on campus.
Fifth-grade students got in on the fun and helped plant the new trees. During the process, students learned why trees are important, how to properly plant them and what it means to live in a tree-designated city.
“So this morning we are planting Red Push Pistache, which is a special variety of tree that’s very suited to our climate in Chico,” City of Chico Urban Forest manager Richie Bamlet said.
