82nd Annual WV Strawberry Festival kicks off Saturday [Video]

BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV) – The 82nd annual WV Strawberry Festival kicks off this weekend in Buckhannon.

Traditions like the lighting of the strawberry and coronation will be taking place on Saturday. Sunday will feature Mother’s Day Bingo for the first time.

Festival Vice President Lacy Ramsey says this year’s Mardi Gras theme has a big influence on new music and food.

“This year we’re hoping for it to be our biggest and best yet, we have a lot of new things coming in with an expanded vendor [and] food court lineup, we have a headliner, Ashley Cook will be coming Saturday night, a lot of street entertainment that’s a little different we’ve done in years past so a lot to look forward to,” said Ramsey.

Like last year there are plans for a fireworks show after the headline act on May 18th. The carnival and live music begin Wednesday, May 15th.
